The new mode in 《Resident Evil 9: Requiem》has received mixed reviews! Fans are eager for the return of the mercenary mode.

Capcom's recent release of the 《Resident Evil: Requiem》 DLC, "Leon Must Die Forever," has sparked heated debate among fans. This unexpected expansion puts Leon S. Kennedy back in the spotlight, shifting the game's focus to pure action gameplay.

The core concept of this mode is to let players enjoy the fast-paced, satisfying gameplay of controlling Leon, skipping the long, slow horror chapters centered on Grace in the main story. However, this innovation has not pleased everyone. A significant number of players are dissatisfied, as they were expecting the classic "Mercenaries Mode" — the iconic gameplay feature that became a trademark of 《Resident Evil 4》 and 《Resident Evil Village》.

Criticism has also been directed at the reuse of environments: players note that the DLC is almost entirely composed of remade campaign levels. Structurally, the mode resembles the hardcore challenge "Ethan Must Die" from 《Resident Evil 7》, borrowing its high difficulty, permadeath mechanics, and roguelike elements.

Despite this, the DLC has its supporters. They enjoy the skill system and the high replayability offered by roguelike design. The most devoted Leon fans are simply happy for the chance to play as their favorite character again, regardless of the form Capcom chose.

《Resident Evil: Requiem》 is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2, with global cumulative sales exceeding 7 million copies.
